Playing With Cottonseeds

I've been working on a new pattern.  Geesh...it feels so good to be sewing because it seems like I do much more paper work than working with fabric!  This little quilt has a bit of applique in it....just a touch.  I've been thinking about this project for many months now, and... finally....I get to make it.

The quilt is called Cottonseeds, and here are the fabrics I've pulled so far.  I'm madly in love with the blue floral print (Vicksburg by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Fabrics).  I found it at Back Door Quilts when I went there several months ago.  They only had one yard left, and oh....how I wish I had much more!!  Anyway...the yard will be fine for my little quilt.  I have to decide which red to use.  Hhmmm.
I'll have to play a bit more...audition them, if you will.  Which red gets your vote?

I will be teaching this project when I visit the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild in Lodi, Wisconsin in April.  This will be a return visit for me, and I'm delighted to go back to spend time with this delightful group of ladies!!  I'll post my progress this week as I work on the quilt.

On a side note....at the start of the new year, I posted that two of my goals this year were to learn to make wonderful pies, and  great yummy soups.  Well....haven't delved into the pies just yet, but I have made a few soups.

This soup, Tomato Basil Parmesan in the Slow Cooker, was outstanding.  Not surprisingly, I found it on Pinterest !!  It was a teeny bit of work and worth every minute spent making this delicious creation.

Click here for the recipe.  You can find me on Pinterest too!!

Are you getting some time to sew?

Hope sew....Pam

  3. Love the fabrics and can't wait to see what you do with them. I prefer the 1st red, the one on top that reads as more of a solid.

  4. Yup, I vote for the tonal red as well. I think the other will read more as an orange in the quilt. Just MHO. : )
    Soup looks yummy.
Oh, I wish I could come help you "delve into pies". I took the same journey a few years ago and finally won sweepstakes at the county fair with a pie. I've got a couple of scrumptious recipes that are my very favorites--and several tips I've gathered from experts that I love to share.

  5. Pam, you've opened Pandora's box. I have stayed away from Pinterest, but I thought I would take a peek at your page--I could spend hours there!

  6. Thanks for the soup recipe..my favorite. I prefer the same darker tonal red for the same reason Janet cited. Have fun with that.

  7. Oh I've got to check that soup out. Love those that we can do in the slow cooker, so we can sew all day! And interestingly enough...that is one of my goals this year too. Pies!!

  8. I like the first red in the pile -- the darker one. Seems the other reads to much like orange. That soup sounds wonderful, will have to give it a try.

  9. My vote is for the darker red as well... decisions, decisions!

  10. Awwww funny !!! The tide seems to be going strongly for the top red but alas I always have to be different as I love the second one. Still reads as red to me and I love how it ties the other fabrics together. Can't wait to see what you make either way :) and the soup looks positively yummy !!! We had cheesy chicken enchilada soup last night and it wa seriously comforting .

  11. The solid red really makes the red in the floral pop! Beautiful colors and can't wait to see what you make.

  13. I'd go with the second red, it makes the other fabrics pop a bit. Some comments have said it is to orange, but I love orange in a quilt. Your soup looks delicious, I'm always looking for good soup recipes.

  14. I also vote for the second red. I don't think it looks too orange at all. I think it compliments the gold fabric. The first red almost has a pink-ish look to it...but that may be my computer screen. The top red & the blue read as a solid to my eye...and I think the second red adds more interest. Hurry and finish your project! I'm anxious to see what Cottonseeds will look like!

  15. Hi Pam,
If it were me, I would use both reds! Cannot wait to see your project. I am working on a quilt for my first quilt-along, which you have inspired me to do. I may be calling or emailing you . . . Nancy Rink

    1. Hi Nancy!!

Tempting to use both reds, I agree, but in the end only one made the cut...no pun intended ;-) I will use something more tone-on-tone for the binding. I can't wait to participate in your SAL and you're welcome to call me anytime. Pam
